- APICS
- Apics is the leading professional association for supply chain and operations management and the premier provider of research, education and certification programs in supply chain management.
- Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP)
- This is a mathematical modeling technique that can find optimal solutions to such processes as scheduling and freight selection.
- SCOR model
- The SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference) model, promoted by the Supply Chain Council, provides a framework within which to analyze, improve and manage supply chain operations. It is organized around five major management processes:
- Plan: Planning the supply chain
- Source: Procuring products and services
- Make: Manufacturing products and services
- Deliver: Delivering ordered products and services to the customer
- Return: Both to suppliers and from customers
- Skid-scale
- Small scale, on-site production of a continuously needed product, thereby eliminating or reducing the need for transportation of product to the customer. This is especially applicable when the majority of the “raw materials” are easily supplied from common local sources such as water, air, natural gas, and waste heat.
- Supply chain
- The “SCOR” definition: Plan-Source-Make-Deliver-Return. Supply chains represent all the activities necessary to get product to the customer. Products can be either physical or virtual in nature.
- Supply Chain Council (SCC)
- This is a global nonprofit organization whose framework, improvement methodology, training, certification and benchmarking tools help member organizations make dramatic, rapid, and sustainable improvements in supply chain performance.
- Supply chain network
- The physical or virtual network defined by key supply chain locations (nodes); such as suppliers, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and customers; and the interconnecting product flow pathways, such as the various modes of transportation. Supply chain networks are seldom linear in nature.
- Supply chain strategy
- The supply chain strategy is a component of the overall business strategy. It defines in a prioritized and interconnected manner how the supply chain supports the overall business strategy, to include associated risks. Essential components of the supply chain strategy include customer service, cost management and asset management.
- Sustainability
- Sustainability means that a business is carrying out its activities in such a manner that it can meet not just short-term, but also long-term goals for the business and the environment in which the business operates. True sustainability mutually serves three areas of balanced emphasis:
- People – Every business has multiple stakeholders and is ultimately about those people, be they the owners, the employees, the customers or the community in which the business operates.
- Planet – Business must respect the physical environment.
- Profit – Business activities must be sufficiently efficient and result in sufficient customer added value that the customers are willing to pay a price that ensures the long term economic viability of the business.
