- B Lab
- A non-profit company which originated the "benefit corporation" movement. It developed standardized metrics for validating and differentiating good products and practices from false marketing claims/greenwashing (the BCorp Survey) which are available for anyone to use. It also developed a mark (BCorp) of excellence which only is granted to companies which meet or exceed the standards minimum, and thus it is a certifying agency.
- CPG companies
- Consumer packaged goods (typically referencing the large players such as Kraft, General Foods, etc.)
- Dematerialization
- Creating and experiencing more value while using less material resources to produce and deliver that value.
- Food miles
- The miles a food product travels from harvest/source to point of distribution such as a retail store or restaurant.
- GMO
- Genetically Modified Organism
- Greenwashing
- The practice of implying or claiming a better environmental or green impact profile than what is true.
- Guard rails
- The articulated collection of company practices and product characteristics which are your compass and which you will not violate.

- The non-financial promise you make the customer and yourself about what positive impact you will have as a result of how you go about running your business and the positive social or environmental effect of your product itself.
- Specialty foods
- Variously defined and not a technical term. But generally connotes the upper end of the quality spectrum and foods that are unique and “gourmet.” These foods also tend to be found more in gourmet and natural food stores or ones which call actually categorize themselves “specialty.” There also are distributors who deal primarily in “specialty food” items, as distinct from what is known as “mainstream” grocery stores such as Kroger or Stop & Shop.
- Value proposition
- The inherent promises and values which you are making to your customer – the characteristics which differentiate your product from the competition.
